French - The Real Thing! Ou-la-la...
Preserving the Art of French pastry, our executive pastry chef Jean Yves creates luxurious
pastries of exceptional quality and artistry, masterfully blending classic European traditions with
modern flavors and contemporary palettes.
With now over 40 years of experience, he has a lot to be proud of. Having graduated first in his
class from one of the top Pastry schools in Paris "Ecole Jean Ferrandi", he then honed his skills
in multiple bakeries throughout Europe. Afterwards, Jean Yves went on to refine his craft for
eight years in a 4-star restaurant "La Grenouille" in New York City, where he had the challenge
of creating new desserts and cakes every day to satisfy the palettes of the most demanding
customers. Among the people who have indulged in his dessert masterpieces were Paul
Newman, Julia Child, Raquel Welch, Calvin Klein, Ralph Lauren, Anthony Queens, and many
others. After a few years in "La Grenouille" Jean Yves opened his own bakery on Long Island,
NY - "Jean Yves Patisserie Francaise". It grew in popularity so fast that the next four locations,
as well as many wholesale accounts came in no time. His bakeries were soon catering to all of
the major European airlines. For over 20 years he was in charge of making desserts for all the
presidential flights departing New York City. He made specialty cakes for the former president of
France, and the King of Morocco, just to name a few.
When the ever growing business had become overwhelming, Jean Yves wanted to escape from
the bustling New York, and discovered the Berkshires. And then, with a new marriage and a
baby underway, he closed all his Long Island shops, and decided to start fresh. Hence, the
charming Patisserie Lenox was born. This time, it was not only a take-out pastry shop, but also
a full service café, boasting its wide selection of drinks to accompany the delectable pastries,
and an impressive list of breakfast and lunch items, some French classics, and some created by
his wife Yulia, made with local organic ingredients. It is a true family business now with Jean
Yves doing all the baking, Yulia cooking and managing the cafe, and their two young children
being the firsthand degustators!
In June 2013 the family expanded the business by opening a second location in Great
Barington, Mass. In June 2015 the third location in Hudson, NY, opened its doors. Northampton,
Mass, location was born on December 1, 2017.
